Andy Viera Rivera, LMSW, Esq.
Andy was born and raised in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico where he formed as an individual and professional. He was always keen by justice, equality and human rights; and for those reasons he decided to do a Master’s Degree in Social Work after finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Upon completion of his studies in social work, he went to Law School and completed a Law Degree. All his degrees were conferred by the University of Puerto Rico, the place where his passion for servicing others and fighting against injustices was born and developed. Right after moving to New York City, Andy began working in the community of Corona, Queens as a psychotherapist and immigration attorney. This experience allowed him to witness the suffering, fears and injustices that the immigrant communities face every day. Andy decided to join this initiative because he understands that these communities need more than legal assistance and clinical intervention. He wants to impact these communities fighting for their human rights, educating and assisting them to ultimately improve their quality of life.
Josué Román Castro, BBA, JD
Josué is an accounting and finance professional with a law degree born and raised in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Besides his passion for numbers, he always shown interest for the well-being of the people, social equality and human rights. Josué graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, then led by his passion in workers and class inequality decided to go to Law School and graduated in 2017. While in Law School, he developed his interest in advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable communities and their civil rights, he joined the Pro Justice Social Movement and focused on providing orientation, education and legal services as a tool for change. Right after Hurricane Maria, Josué moved to New York City looking for more opportunities and this is when he realized all the injustices that immigrants go through just because of their legal status and social position. Josué wants to focus his efforts fighting for immigrant workers inequality, end immigrant exploitation and advocate for human rights. He currently works as a Finance Director in RWS Entertainment Group, North America's largest provider of branded stage shows and experiences.
Ema Marrero Negrón, JD
Ema was born and raised in Morovis, Puerto Rico; lawyer and women's rights activist. For the past 10 years, she has collaborated with government entities and agencies, both in project management and the development of public policy, compliance with federal regulations, and internal structure design. In the private company, she has developed herself as a project manager and as a business development director. Since she was a child she worked and volunteered in several local initiatives, especially in the most vulnerable sectors. She always had interest in governance structures, politics, and how these affect citizens. Her passion is the public education system, where she has managed academic transformation projects. Ema is co-founder of Proyecto 85, a non for profit organization in Puerto Rico, which main focus is to empower women to run for public office.
She is currently working as a trustee in a local governamental agency that provides services to people with disabilities.
Fernando G. Rodríguez Hernández, Esq.
Fernando was born and raised in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, he is a lawyer and has been working and managing local businesses for over 11 years. From an early age, he felt a call to participate in social welfare activities, which eventually led him to volunteer in non-profit organizations and community initiatives. During his youth, he became interested in government-related issues, justice, and economics, not only at the local level but internationally. In addition, he had the opportunity to live abroad in several countries, so he began to interact with people from different nationalities. Due to personal experiences at a young age, he met people of different nationalities, which aroused a passion and empathy for the challenges that these communities face. He completed his university studies at the UPR where he obtained a BA in Political Science. Later, he graduated from the Inter-American University School of Law. He is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Puerto Rico. He currently works as a lawyer in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he also resides.
